Before and After School Activities

Acting for Young People

Dates: Fridays, starting on September 28th and ending November 16th

Total Tuition: $88 • 8 meetings, 1 hour per meeting

Time: 4:05 PM – 5:05 PM

Location: Fairview ES POD

Students, K – 6th, learn to use their own unique qualities to act, using theater games, improvisation, storytelling, and text. Through individual and group activities, young actors build confidence, and each will make a significant contribution to our final presentation, held on the last class day. This program has been specially adapted for before/after school programs from AFYP’s expanded curriculum of classes and Summer Acting Camps and is ideal for new and returning students with any level of experience.

Basketball

Dates: Thursdays, starting on 20 September and ending 3 December

Your choice of 5 weeks or 10 weeks

Price: Your choice of 5 weeks for $75 or 10 weeks for $135

Youth Basketball for All Levels of Players. Your child will:

    • Get lots of exercise
    • Learn the fundamentals of a new sport without pressure
    • Gain Confidence
    • Have fun
    • Gain Focus

Players, grades K-6th (boys & girls), will be able to learn at their own pace and learn skills and fundamentals. Register now; classes fill up quickly. Chess

Dates: Fridays, starting on 28 September and ending on 8 January

All grades and skill levels welcome! Chess Club is taught by experienced Silver Knights instructors using a curriculum developed by National Masters. Each weekly session is a mix of learning and play. Playing chess is a great way to develop a child’s critical thinking skills, sportsmanship, and patience —all while having fun!

Coding Club

Dates: Thursdays, starting on 4 October and ending on 29 November

Location: Fairview ES Art Room, 257

Students, grades 2nd – 6th, create stories, games, and animations using a visual programming language called Scratch. It’s as easy to use as snapping together building blocks! Projects like mazes and platform games make learning logic, coding, and animation fun and creative! Our curriculum teaches new coders the basics while challenging more experienced coders to create increasingly complex programs. We do different projects every session, so material doesn’t repeat. Each child takes home a USB with all their programs on the last day!

Guitar Club

For grades 2nd – 6th. Turn up the volume and rock out with Guitar Club this semester! Guitar Club provides students in 2nd Grade and UP the opportunity to grab a guitar and have fun playing music with friends. Our encouraging and experienced teachers are ready to help your child develop their own musical ability, self-confidence, and creativity as they prepare for an exciting final performance!

Kidz Keys / Piano

For grades 2nd – 6th. Soar into KidzKeys this semester and learn skills that will last a lifetime! KidzKeys provides students in K through 2nd Grade an environment to explore and express their own creativity - all while having fun learning with friends! Our experienced teachers work with students to develop their own musical abilities, promote self-confidence, and encourage teamwork. See you in class!

STEM Comic Book Illustration

Dates: Wednesday, starting on 3 October and ending on 5 December

No Classes on 24 October or 21 November.

Students, grades 3rd – 6th, will learn about character development, storyboarding, panelling, story design, color theory and how to hone their art style. Instructors will teach students how to create comics using tradition art along with digital software.

STEM Minecraft

For students 1st – 4th grade. Minecraft Modding teaches students important problem-solving and design skills by making changes to the popular multiplayer game itself. Programming fundamentals are reinforced by designing and implementing large-scale Minecraft modifications.

Zumba by Kids in Motion

Offered by Kids in Motion, Zumba class for kids in grades K-5th is a high energy, contagiously exciting dance workout specifically designed for children. Classes are designed with kid friendly music, movements, and routines. Zumba for Kids is a perfect fit for children and it creates an environment of excitement around being healthy and active! This class helps children boost metabolism and increase focus, coordination, and self-confidence. Zumba instructors are certified Zumba Kids instructors, which certify them to teach 5-12 year old children. Instructors receive further training through Kids in Motion lead instructors.
