Before and After School Activities

3D Printing

Dates: Fridays, starting on January 17 and ending March 7 (NO class Jan 18 and Jan 25)

3D Printing is a premier class that not only teaches students how to create 3D models from an artistic standpoint, but also teaches them from an engineering standpoint. Because the models will be printed, our instructors teach students what to consider in the construction of the model to produce the best-quality print. Students will observe a 3D Printer during each lesson to learn proper 3D printing standards and processes, all while creating their own models that will be printed for them.

Acting for Young People

Students learn to use their own unique qualities to act, using theater games, improvisation, storytelling, and text. Through individual and group activities, young actors build confidence, and each will make a significant contribution to our final presentation, held on the last class day. This program has been specially adapted for before/after school programs from AFYP’s expanded curriculum of classes and Summer Acting Camps and is ideal for new and returning students with any level of experience.

Youth Basketball for All Levels of Players. Your child will:

All grades and skill levels welcome! Chess Club is taught by experienced Silver Knights instructors using a curriculum developed by National Masters. Each weekly session is a mix of learning and play. Playing chess is a great way to develop a child’s critical thinking skills, sportsmanship, and patience —all while having fun!

Your child will learn about basic design and composition as they draw the Fish Below Ice and Great Wall of China. Besides strengthening your child’s drawing and coloring skills, he or she will also learn about art history as we present lessons featuring master artists Leonardo Da Vinci and Franz Marc.

Minecraft Redstone allows students to explore electronics in a virtual world with essentially infinite resources. Using Minecraft's Redstone blocks, which act as wires on a breadboard, students can build constructs representing electrical circuits and simple computer projects that are built in the real world. This course is a great precursor to understand real circuitry, electronics and electrical theory. This course allows students to gain an understanding of how computers are processing commands as they move on to other computer science studies, and take home their Redstone creations at the ends of the course.

No longer just a game for a frozen pond, Floor Hockey is a one size fits all game of speed, coordination, and thrills. Play and skill work to include stick handling, dodging, ball control, and of course shooting will be introduced and practiced from week to week. Learn the different ways to put a shot on goal by incorporating wrist shots, slap shots, snap shots, and the backhand.

Intro to CS & Coding teaches programming logic without the requirement of learning a new language, making it the perfect foundation for any other computer science or technology subject. Students start with hands-on activities that help them learn vital concepts in a tangible way, then use our easy drag-and-drop interface to put their new knowledge into play, to create programs, solve problems and even make games.

Kinder-Tech is the perfect course for Kindergartners to learn about technology in a fun way, tailored to their specific age group! Students will be introduced to the full gamut of STEM courses: programming, game design, Minecraft modding, electronics, digital art, 3D printing and more! Our instructors have been especially trained to educate this age group on their level, and will be able to offer strong support for your little learners.

Offered by Kids in Motion, Zumba class is a high energy, contagiously exciting dance workout specifically designed for children. Classes are designed with kid friendly music, movements, and routines. Zumba for Kids is a perfect fit for children and it creates an environment of excitement around being healthy and active! This class helps children boost metabolism and increase focus, coordination, and self-confidence. Zumba instructors are certified Zumba Kids instructors, which certify them to teach 5 to 12-year-old children. Instructors receive further training through Kids in Motion lead instructors.

NEW PTA Community Partner – Mt. Kim Martial Arts Studio

Fairview introduces our newest PTA Community Partner, Mt. Kim Martial Arts Studio. Mt. Kim offers classes, special events, and DAILY after school care. The after-school program is full time Monday through Friday. Transportation from school, afternoon snack, classes, reading/homework time, and fun are all included!

Students will engage in DEAR time (Drop Everything And Read), read-aloud time, homework time, and arts/crafts time each day before and after martial arts classes. Students will be encouraged to read every day to improve their reading skills and comprehension as well as encouraged to finish their school assignments. Students will also have snack time, board games or art crafts time under the supervision of a state certified teacher.
